VOLUNTEER SIGN UP COMING SOON!
Cocodona250 Volunteer Team
A race of this magnitude takes hundreds of volunteers to pull off. We are looking for a few (actually more than a few) volunteers to help on race week in many different aspects of the race. We have the following needs for the event (all roles can be found in the volunteer signup page unless noted otherwise):
- Staff Roles – There are lots of behind-the-scenes staff roles, including: course markers, aid station setup/teardown crews, shuttle drivers, PTs/massage therapists, and many more. The positions are not listed on the general volunteer signup page, so email the Race Director, steve[@]aravaiparunning[dot]com, if interested.
- Aid Station Captains – The aid station captain role is a BIG job. You’ll be responsible for:
- If possible, assist the RD in obtaining your assistant captain and aid station volunteers
- Be available for emails/communications/training in advance of the event
- Obtain Food Handlers Cert
- In addition to the race directors standard communications, coordinate details/instructions with your station volunteers
- Coordinate w/ Asst Captain the expectations between you two, who will do what, etc.
- Might be asked to bring some personal supplies and/or purchase some items for your station (if possible and you will be reimbursed)
- Final setup of the aid station
- Managing and assisting volunteers to support their role at the race
- Providing a safe, efficient, fun, and clean aid station experience for all runners
- Record inventory, volunteer hours, and volunteer no-shows
- Breakdown after the race cutoff
- Providing feedback to race director after the race
- Due to the extra duties required before/after the event, captains will receive an additional 3 hours of race credits over the hours worked during the race.
- Aid Station Assistant Captains – Responsible for supporting the Aid Station Captain, including:
- Might be asked to bring some personal supplies and/or purchase some items for your station (if possible and you will be reimbursed)
- Follow the lead of your Aid Station Captain
- Final setup of the aid station
- Managing and assisting volunteers to support their role at the race
- Providing a safe, efficient, fun, and clean aid station experience for all runners
- Breakdown after the race cutoff
- Act as aid station captain during captain’s absence (e.g., during sleep breaks)
- Aid Station Volunteers – Show up on race day and assist runners with their food, hydration and gear needs. Help identify race drop bags for runners passing through and provide that all important encouragement and excitement.
- Course Sweep – We will need 2 runners per section of trail to run behind the last runner and clear the trail of course markings and any litter.
- Setup & Teardown – We will need volunteers to help us setup and teardown the Start and Finish Lines. Look in the Start Line(s), Fort Tuthill Aid Station, and Finish Line locations for these shifts in the volunteer signup system.
- Medical – We have a medical provider, MedStar, who will be in charge of all things medical. Your role will be to assist MedStar should the need arise with a specific focus on footcare issues (cleaning, blisters, taping, KT tape, etc). It isn’t a glamorous job but for some runners, it can mean the difference between a DNF and a buckle. Super important but kinda gross. What can we say, we’ll have nitrile gloves for you.
- LiveStream – Like the idea of filming Cocodona runners on a GoPro? Would you like to be part of the Cocodona LiveStream team? Sign up for LiveStream shifts coming soon!
Volunteer Perks

Volunteers will also receive either a race shirt or an additional Aravaipa race credit. Extra credits will also go to volunteers who take more than one shift per race. Finally, you will be part of one of the most exciting races in the world!
